Quikon: New generation Biostimulants and their application in Table Grapes – Live at MRDBS 2021

Is often said that big things come in small packages. This may very well be said about Tradecorp´s new generation Biostimulant that was born in the Brazil Agroindustry and that is changing the way crop Biostimulants are viewed worldwide. Quikon indeed comes in a small package, yet 50ml /ac per application is more than enough to effectively fully biostimulate an acre of Table Grapes, enhancing both yield and quality. Bunch weight – increased by 28%, yield increases of up to an astonishing 20%… growers may look at the size of the Quikon bottle and be surprised. How is this possible? What is Quikon, the new ReEvolution in agriculture?

In this short article we will explain what the future holds for agricultural Biostimulantion, and what role new generation Biostimulants like Tradecorp´s Quikon will play in it.

Growers can help guarantee a good harvest, with produce of high quality via Quikon’s Biostimulation at a key development stage in the table grape crop, i.e. 2 – 3 applications at the fruit swell and development stage (BBCH 69 to 81, 100% cap fall, berries 10mm, veraison). Yield increases in grape have already been clearly demonstrated using Quikon, and quality parameters such as fruit coloration, berry size, sugar content, and even shelf-life should also not be overlooked and are also improved.

What is Quikon this new generation Biostimulant?

Quikon is an ultra-efficient new generation Biostimulant obtained from an exclusive plant fermentation process. The result is a liquid bacterial extract, this means that the product is composed of the liquids produced by the bacteria during fermentation, but does not contain living bacteria. The ultra-efficient Biostimulant is obtained by using a unique bacterial strain of Corynebacterium glutamicum grown using a natural source molasses from the Brazilian sugar agroindustry under strictly controlled conditions.

Figure 1. Conditions that are controlled during the fermentation process used to produce Quikon.

What are “New Generation” Biostimulants and how is Quikon different?

Quikon is quite different from other agricultural bacterial or microorganism products available in the market since its multiple modes of Biostimulant action do not rely on living microorganisms inoculating the plant, nor rely on just a single enzyme produced by a bacterium. Quikon is a complete extract that results from the complex interactions of both the food source used for the bacteria, and then the unique bacterial strain growing on this food source. All of this results in a product with a unique “biochemcial fingerprint” of primary and secondary compounds that cannot be replicated. Changing any parameter during the production of these type of new generation Biostimulants, for example changing the food source, bacterial strain or growth conditions would alter the shape of the fingerprint and thus alter the efficiency of the Biostimulant. These primary and secondary compounds that are naturally produced and used in Quikon are variable and complex, and will serve as the basis for a whole new generation of Biostimulants. Whereas current generation Biostimulants usually target generalised problems such as Abiotic Stress, like hot or cold climate conditions and are often applied across the agronomic cycle, new generation Biostimulants tend to be targeted towards a specific point problem or agronomic growth stage such as fruit swell and development in the case of Quikon.

Figure 2. Metabiolic fingerprint of Quikon, each peak represents an individual primary or secondary compound that combined result in Quikon ultra-efficiency.

What are these primary and secondary compounds?

Antioxidants, sugars, amino acids, enzymes, vitamins, osmoprotectants, other unique compounds… more than 200 identified compounds to date (and counting), all form the characteristic and unique biochemical fingerprint that powers Quikon. As no other product uses the same bacterial strain, nor the same feed source nor the same exclusive growth process Quikon is thus unique and its activity is a one-of-a-kind product. This type of uniqueness will be a characteristic of new generation Biostimulants which will often contain unique and proprietary combinations of primary and secondary compounds so that even if a copy of the product is attempted due to the unique interactions of the individual components and conditions during production the final fingerprint of the product new generation Biostimulants will be harder to replicate or copy.

    How does Quikon work?

The unique fingerprint of Quikon, generated by the unique combination of primary and secondary compounds results in a potent plant Biostimulant, capable of improving crop performance – and at much lower doses compared to conventional generation Biostimulants. In particular a strong Biostimulation effect that enhances fruit swell and development is observed and all of this coming from an all natural product. Multiple plant metabolic and physiological processes are upregulated or enhanced via the multi action activity of the primary and secondary compounds, such as increased photosynthesis and improved antioxidant capacity, resulting in increased fruit swell and development with more fruits retained , all of which results in higher yield, quality, and profitability

    How is Quikon used?

Quikon as an ultraefficient Biostimulant, is used at 10 to 40 times lower doses than many other Biostimulants available in the market. Mixed in normal spraying volumes in the application tank, it can be applied to the grapes at the beginning middle to end of the fruit swell and development stages. Like many other Biostimulants, more does not mean better, and Quikon doses, although low, have been proven through numerous trials to be more efficient at the set optimal dosages as per the label. This means there is no need to waste product and money with excessive usage! In general, 2 or 3 applications, at a 50 mL /ac dose with 14 to 21 day intervals, from fruit set through fruit swell, suffices to produce optimal results in Table grapes.

Growers all over the world, including India, are beginning to find out about new generation Biostimulants and about Quikon’s success story via the enhanced production in their own crops. Quikon had a registration process that took over 6 years in Brazil, where Quikon was born, and it achieved the first Biostimulant type registration in that country for any product, is now successfully registered in Europe and an increasing number of other countries. This means that Quikon has undergone the most rigorous global testing and scrutiny. This, combined with the internationally recognised Tradecorp reputation for quality and efficacy, will help Growers improve their grape harvest using an ultra-efficient Biostimulant product that is all natural.

New generation Biostimulants are here to stay, each will have unique characteristics in the agronomic cycle and in the case of Quikon this means big results in a small package. Table Grape agronomy will no doubt benefit greatly from these new tools will you join the ReEvolution!
